PUB #3- YOUR FINAL PUB!! DUE: 5/6

PUB #3 - FINAL PUBLISHED WRITING PIECE
DUE : MAY 6th 2020
MY GRADES GO IN MAY 12th

Scholars!! I put a great deal of thought into our final published writing piece. I had many plans for this semester. The truth is that much of what I had in mind did not come into fruition given the circumstances.. There are a great many things that I have learned during my time here on earth....

I have learned that respect and kindness go a VERY LONG WAY.. I have learned that meeting new people and appreciating them on more than one level can speak volumes.. AND I HAVE LEARNED THAT each and every one of the people we meet here on our journey have the ability to create impact and influence.. . The impact and influence carries weight no matter HOW BIG or how small....

WE learn from others.. in more ways than one. Every experience in life  has purpose.. every experience is meaningful in its own right and we can always take away good.. always.. with a mindset that encompasses gratitude and respect..

With that said.. I have decided to create a final published writing piece to be that of a reflective piece..

I want you to reflect on the questions I ask you and write your response as part of a collaborate lyrical essay that will one day establish what we can eventually define as a class "reflective journal". While each one of you will have your individual responses.. the post will be a flourished writing lyrical analysis of individual goals and perspectives.. based on "the time period".

TASK: Please respond to the following prompt in 3-4 paragraphs. Proofread for grammar and spelling.. BE SURE TO PRE-WRITE.. brainstorm and plan your response.. Reflect on the questions and create a compelling and  heartfelt piece that establishes you as a scholar, writer, analytical and introspective thinker.. Most importantly, construct a response that allows you to contribute a "verse" in this world..

WATCH BOTH VIDEOS for inspiration... As YOU WATCH THEM.. Jot down some ideas that speak to you... WHICH ONE DO YOU FEEL SPEAKS TO YOU? WHY?

Critically think about what the speaker is trying to communicate.. Once you have jotted down some ideas.. begin to brainstorm your response based on the questions provided..

Write a 3-4 paragraph personal response to what you have learned this semester in my class.. . What has changed in your writing? How have you grown as a thinker and writer? What did you like most about the class? What ideas truly resonate with you? What will you take away this semester (can be my class... life.. another class.. online learning.. etc ) and apply to your life outside the classroom? Where do you see yourself as a thinker, writer etc. in five years.
What dreams do you have for yourself going forward? What changes do you wish to see in the world? If you had to think of ONE characteristic to describe good character what would that be and why? Provide an example of how you wish to see that in the world going forward and why?

(Brady Example Adjective: RESPECT- I believe that all things stem from respect.. respecting others beliefs and ideas about business, politics and career objectives.. this paired with a strong respect for oneself.. having a strong and solid respect for oneself in accordance with others is a valuable emotional skill that will speak volumes today in 2020 and in the future.)

Proofread for grammar and spelling! This response is due ON MAY 6th!!
My GRADES GO IN MAY 12th!

* I cannot express enough how proud I am of so many of you.. I think about my own endeavors as a student often.. I believe that so many you inspire others in more ways than one.. Thank you for a wonderful semester.. You continue to inspire me .. to do the work that I do in the classroom..

GREAT JOB SPRING 2020!

  1. Technical Writing is unlike any english class I’ve taken before. Going into the class, I didn’t know what to expect. After nearly finishing this semester, I’ve developed a lot in my writing than ever before. The first thing I learned was how to properly greet and sign professional documents. This is a crucial part to any document because it is the first and last thing a reader gets from your writing. I’ve also learned that this was important to incorporate into my daily conversations when people. Proper eye contact, shaking someone's hand, and the simple use of prefixes develops a person's character, making them more appealing. Another very important thing I learned in Technical Writing is how to write documents to where it is alluring to the eye, very direct, and meaningful. With all of these building blocks, I’ve created my first business emails, flyers, cover pages, business plans, and more. I’ve grown to be more proud of my work because I have learned all the little things that add up to create a body of work.

As a thinker and a writer, I think my vocabulary definitely increased. Over the course of the semester, I was encouraged to use bold words that make your writing stand out. Ultimately, something that will truly resonate with me is that I learned to be confident in my writing and the work I produce. We were told to take pride in our work and not do anything we are ashamed of. This skill is something I will use for years to come. Not only can I apply this to writing, but any other task that is thrown my way, whether it be work related, family related, or anything else down my path. My favorite part of the class was the wide variety of work everyone created. In Technical Writing, everyone's work was different and just in their own way, whereas in another subject there is one specific right answer.

In the future, I see myself developing my resume that I’ve started in this class more. In 5 years, I plan on graduating from law school and hopefully starting my career. Something I dream of doing is working as a family lawyer where I can help people and kids in need. Something I wish to see change in the world is an increasing rate of people with mental illnesses being helped. A lot of time, these problems start in the family. This is why I would like to start helping first hand as a family lawyer.

One characteristic that I think truly makes good character is the act of being humble. A lot of times, people act out of anger, jealousy, or hatred to people they envy. In my opinion, if everyone in the world showed modesty to their own and everyone else’s importance we’d notice a huge difference in the actions people take. It’s a step towards being happy and respecting yourself.

  2. This semester I learned how to properly write a professional business e-mail including the recipient’s name, title, contact information, and job title. I also learned that I need to include these same things when I am ending an email and signing my name at the bottom. Since I did not have this skill when going into this class I assume that there is a good amount of people in the labor force who don’t know how to write a business email professionally, and this is putting me far above them when I am looking to be hired or establish connections. I also learned the importance of white space in writing. With this skill I was able to push my business emails to yet another level, as well as create a resume for myself that I have already used more than once in my real life to apply for a job and get the position I am currently working in.

The most important thing that I have learned, however, is that kindness and respect can go a very long way, and that you should always take a chance even when you feel like you are uncomfortable in a situation. It is far better to be uncomfortable and to attempt something that will push you further, than it is to be comfortable and stay where you are. It is also important to address people politely and to greet them whenever you see them, whether they be a co-worker, superior, subordinate, male, female, black, white, etc… everyone appreciates and wants to be spoken to respectfully and it seldom goes unnoticed.

My favorite part of the class was seeing how my peers thought. We were all given the same assignments, yet we each handed in something different. It was interesting to me to discuss in class the different business ideas that my classmates thought of, or the “how-to” videos they brainstormed, and much more. It really showed me that oftentimes there is more than one right way to get a job done.

Going forward I see myself staying with the job I currently have (I am a cashier at a CVS) and working my way up the ladder to a shift supervisor, and eventually a store manager where I can gain some experience to put on my resume so that I may apply and get in to Hofstra University where I will pursue my Master of Business Administration (MBA). This is both where I see myself in five years, as well as my dream for the future.

Some changes I would absolutely love to see in the world right now would be I would love to be able to live in a world where I don’t need a mask and gloves to leave my house (I think we all want that). I would also like to see an increase in minimum wage, because the cost of living has increased so much in recent decades, and the minimum wage has struggled to keep up making it very difficult for some individuals and families to make ends meet. I would love to live in a world where everyone can live comfortably. One characteristic to describe good character in my opinion would be selfless. I find it very admirable and inspiring to see someone like Bill Gates, or even the average working class citizen, donating money for Coronavirus research. It inspires me to work hard to get to a point where I can help find a cure for a pandemic, or help others who are less fortunate.

Going into this technical writing course, I didn’t know what to expect. I have never been the biggest fan of english courses, but now that the semester is coming to an end, I am so happy I took this class. I have gained so much knowledge that I will continue to bring into my future endeavors such as how to write professional documents, business emails, and how to create a resume and cover letter. I cannot stress enough how important it is to learn how to do these things properly before entering the workforce. Being well mannered and knowledgeable in these skills will add to my character as well as make me more appealing to others. Also, I’ve learned that I need to carry some of these things into my daily interactions such as properly introducing myself, making eye contact, and shaking their hand. I have learned the importance of building meaningful connections with others and that the more connections you have, the more opportunities you could possibly have.

Something that resonates with me is that I should always put out my best work and be confident in the work I put out into the world. You have always told us that we need to be proud and take pride in our work and that is something that I will always remember for years to come. That is one thing I want to instill in my friends, family and one day, my children; to always be confident and proud of their work and their accomplishments.

In the future, I see myself adding more to my resume such as more internships and work experience. In five years, I plan to have started my career. I hope to have a well paying job doing something I absolutely love. I dream of becoming an interior designer or to have a job in marketing.

Something I wish to see in the world is positivity. I feel that the world has been lacking positivity and genuine connections. The world is full of negative things but if we all come together I believe we can make it a happier place. One characteristic that I think truly makes a good character is the act of kindness. To have good character is to always be kind to people always. And even if somebody does you wrong, to always be the bigger person and take the high road.

  4. Alright let me begin, I honestly didn't know what to expect from the technical writing course, this was clearly different form a usual English class. From my point of view I was not always a big fan of English courses, however as I got order I learned to have more of an interest in it. one thing that I have acquired from this English class is how to develop well organized business letters. Also to realize that I know no class is ever easily there will always be positive things, and negative things about it. I enjoyed learning how to create business letters,a cover letter, a business proposal, and a resume. Learning how to do these kinds of things will help me increase my chances of finding a real job in the future. One other thing that I truly enjoyed was meeting new people in the classroom.
One thing that I found very useful and interesting was using a variety of actions words both in my resume and in my business letters. This teaching will help other people who is reading my work will be interested in what I have to say. This does resonate with me simple because this class has inspired me to always work hard to archive what I want.
In the the future, I see myself finding a job that suits my interest. In five years, I hope by that time that graduated from college, stay connected to people that care about, hopefully graduate with a master degree, and then get career. Which hopefully pays well.
I dream about having my degree from my college, and be well known to a lot of people. I hope I get a job as a coporate investor banker and make a lot of money. One thing that I wish to see in the world is harmony. There has been a lot of things happening in the world both good and bad things. However I feel like if people be kind to one another and work together the world has a better chance to live in a world were there is peace and harmony. One word to describe myself is outgoing, the reason being is I love meeting new people, and getting a chance to interact with them. Also I am very friendly and caring of people. To have good character is to be outgoing getting being involved with people that are in your life. Overall, no matter what always work hard to archive something.

  5. Going into this semester, I did not know what to expect from technical writing. With taking two of your classes in the past, I was expecting the same format as the other two classes, multiple papers throughout the semester, and multiple publish writing pieces. After the first class, I was totally wrong about how the class can go. You turned it into class that can only benefit us for our future careers, and I am glad I was able to take this class because a learned a lot. Taking a business-oriented class should be a requirement for all students at Farmingdale State College because of all the things you can learn about and improve on like email writing, business letters, cover letters, resumes, proper greetings, and many more. I truly enjoyed doing the projects because this gave us practice working on all the things needed for a job application and things we need in life.
One thing that I learned from this class is the importance of white spacing in emails, cover letters, and resumes. I knew white spacing was important in business proposals and other writing assignments, but I had no idea it was that important for emails, cover letters, and resumes. That is one thing that I will remember from this class and implement it into future assignments. My writing and thinking skills have improved from this course. I have thought I have gone outside of the box when it comes to thinking of ideas and I have implemented more eye-popping words in my work to make it more attractive. The one thing that I will resonate is being confident in the work that I have done. In the past, I will be second guessing the work that I have done and always try to change it up. But lately that has changed because I am confident in the work I but in now and know I have done the assignment to the best of my ability.
One dream that I have for myself is going to school for my master’s degree and graduating in the class of 2023. I hope after that; I get a job at a school, working in the athletic office either at the middle/high school level or at the college level. One thing that I would like to see change in the world is bringing more positive vibes. Negativity is always going to be a problem in the world, but we can change that by being more friendly to one another instead of knocking other people down that you do not even know. One characteristic that describes good character is happiness. With people being stressed out more then ever, having a person that you know that can bring happiness in the world is truly a gift. I think this goes for everyone, do what makes you happy, not others. Do not let other people tell you otherwise, happiness is very important to have in life, no matter who you are.

    English 310
    30 April 2020

When I first stepped into our English 310 class in January, I was honestly expecting it to be the same stereotypical English class. The one where you are required to read the same books you read in high school, write the same papers your read in high school, and overall just repeat the same course. However, I am glad to say that English 310 has proven me wrong. For the first time since the end of English 102 last semester, I felt like I was benefiting from this class.

Writing wise, I feel that I have dramatically improved. Learning how to effectively format a resume, create a Linkein account and manage white-space are all aspects that I will use during the future. Learning how to write more effectively and professionally were two main benefits of this course. Our fishbowl discussion (online and in class was something I truly enjoyed/valued). A majority of lectures have no participation and honestly, it is hard to stay engaged.

The main takeaway from this class is listen to nobody's opinion except your own. I learned that even when I do not have the support of my friends/family I have the determination to achieve my goals. Five years from now, I see myself working for Major League Baseball as a Stadium Operations Manager. Currently, that is my dream profession after pursuing post-secondary education.

A big dream of mine is to be extremely successful and be the person that people turn to for advice. I love to help people, whether it is mentally, or financially. Giving back to the community plays a huge role in my character. Being away at Vermont for a semester humbled me and made me realize how lucky we are to have everything that we do on Long Island.

One major change that I would like to see in the world (specifically Long Island) is more of an appreciation for what we have. A lot of other states (like Vermont) do not have areas like Huntington Village, Northport Village, etc. When this lockdown ends, I would like to see people appreciate the ability to interact more than they did previously. Additionally, more open-mindedness towards different cultures is something I would love to see improve over-time.

One characteristic to describe a good character is humble. On Long Island, we are very fortunate to have access to all the stores and entertainment facilities that we do. Being appreciative of these opportunities while not putting down other states shows that we are humble. Additionally, we have to earn what we are working towards. The world would improve if everybody understood that there are no free-handouts in life and that you have to work towards what you want to earn.

  7. This semester I have learned a lot in Technical Writing. When we first started this semester I did not know what to expect from this class but as we come to an end I am confident in everything that I have learned and will definitely use this material for a long time. We learned so many things in a short period of time. How to write a proper business email, how to write a resume with a cover letter, how to write a proposal, how to make a business flyer, how to write a how to and so much more. The first thing we learned was how to properly write a business email which is so important because this reflects on who you are. The way you start off and sign off on a document is important because it is the first and last thing the reader sees. Next, we learned how to write a resume and cover letter. We learned how to use the proper words and skills to really showcase who we are.

My writing has definitely improved in the wording choice I use and the way I organize my writing to make it appealing to the person reading it.As a thinker and writer I have grown to be more creative and really think deeper about what I am writing about. I have learned to expand my vocabulary and really make my writing pieces stand out. What I loved most about this class was that we learned amazing skills that we can now take into the world with us and how open we were to creativity. Something that will truly resonate with me is how we were shown and taught to be confident in our writing. Our writing is something we put out that really shows who we are and we need to stand confident behind it. We not only need to be confident in our writing but also in ourselves.

In five years I see myself adding a lot more to my resume and always continuing to build on my writing skills. I also plan to be set in a career that I love and really working on being the best I can be. I wish to see positivity and peace being spread around the world. One characteristic to describe good character is honesty. This is because the more honest you are, the easier it is to be trusted. Others will be able to trust you as well as you being able to trust others. Honesty is the most important principle of leadership.

  8. From the technical writing course this semester, I would say my writing has grown and flourished a bit. I learned to be more professional and format my writing into my field of study. I’ve really grown because now I think about every possible scenario when I’m proposing something or every detail to include that will support my writing. I loved this class because it prepared me better than any other class for real life scenarios. If I one day have a job and get asked to send a business email or create a flyer for a promotion, I feel fully confident I can do so with what I’ve learned in this class.

I would say I’ve gotten the best ideas from the resume project. Professor Brady taught me well on how to stand out from other resumes. I will definitely take away our professors teaching skills. She taught with great confidence and explained things to great details using examples. Those skills we be vital for me as I continue college with presenting, talking in front of crowds and coaching which I’m sure I will do someday. All the skills taught by Professor will eventually become necessities for me in the workforce.

I hope to see the world flourish after this pandemic we are currently going through. It has put a huge hold on our country economically, and socially. Some of the techniques we learned in this class cannot be used until daily workforces resume operation. Some companies have struggled so much that they need to close temporarily until this is all over, and with no end in sight who knows if they can make it out. My old employer has even transferred from a valet parking company to a janitor service for the time being. They now offer quality cleaning of parking lots, stores and offices that may have gotten infected. I just want to see the world working together to eliminate the virus by staying safe and practicing social distancing techniques. One characteristic to make a good character for me is humbleness or selfless. I believe people with good character are giving and concerned individuals. Selflessness helps us act from our heart and soul instead of our ego. A great example of this is a mothers devotion to her child. Always putting the needs of the child first before her own. If more people were humble or selfless in their communities they would become safer nicer places all throughout the country.

  9. I honestly expected the class to be like any other English class. I didn’t really know what I was getting into, upon registering for it. Those types of English classes tend to bore me with the constant reading of books or poems. But it ended up being completely different and I really did enjoy my time in the class every week. The assignments we had weren’t like the ordinary English class assignments, they were actually informative and quite useful.

I wouldn’t say my writing has necessarily “changed”, but I learned a lot for what I can use in my future. Specifically, creating a resumĂ©. I haven’t really had any experience with this sort of thing walking into the class, mainly because I haven’t needed a resumĂ© as I’ve worked part-time for all of the jobs that I’ve had in my life so far. I do have more work to do in terms of improving on my resumĂ©. And of course, completing my college career so I can actually put info on the resumĂ©. Work like that, and every other project we’ve worked on throughout the semester, is what I will DEFINITELY take away from this semester and will apply to my life outside of the classroom.

I wouldn’t say I have any major dreams in my future, but I do want to create a mobile app of some sort. I don’t really have any ideas right now, but I’ve heard and read stories of people making a great living off of a single app of theirs that rose to fame and became incredibly successful. I would LOVE to do that. If not an app, then I also wouldn’t mind to create a game. My friend is working on one right now, and it seems like a lot of fun to do. But again, I don’t have any ideas, nor do I have enough knowledge to build a game from the ground up.

A change I would love to see in the world is a big drop in panic around the world when big things happen. With the Coronavirus Pandemic going on, people panic shop and all of the necessities people would buy 1 or 2 of, buy dozens of them until the stores do end up limiting people. People are also trying to protest against the closures of their respective states, wanting to return to work. But they’re protesting with masks and gloves on, and at the same time, claiming it’s safe to return to work. People need to calm down and get brain.

This semester in Eng 310 I learned plentiful. I didn’t know how the class would be and I didn’t even know how to find it in the basement the first day of class but I am glad I did. This class was actually my funnest one where I actually enjoyed showing up and I learned way more then I ever expected too. I learned how to approach the business world in a more modern and professional way. From typing up resumes, business proposals, and even business emails , I have learned a drastic amount. I learned how to properly and professionally write these emails and make sure they a presentable to whom ever they are directed towards. As a thinker and a writer I would say I have grown to be more creative then I ever imagined. It’s like as I’m writing all these creative thoughts shoot towards my brain.

What I liked most about the class was when we worked on the resumes. I never made a resume before so all the new information I learned really had me thinking and stuck with me. Now I finally have a resume I can always update for future jobs and not be worried about having to write one up. All the ideas I learned about have resonated with me since this class was unique compared to the other classes I have taken here at Farmingdale State College. I learned many major life lessons especially how to properly email a higher ranking coworker or even your boss professionally. These are all lessons and skills you can’t learn by yourself but I am grateful we learned it here in Eng 310.

As a thinker and writer, in 5 years, I see my self writing business proposals and emails to my clients because I dream of being a professional real estate broker or a broker in general. I love business and the business language so with the skills I learned in this class in 5 years I hope to see myself applying it in the real world as professionally as possible. I also hope that in the next 5 years my writing and thinking skills can improve 5 times the amount that it is today. I also want my vocational skills to Improve as well. In the world if I were to change one thing I’d change the peace. This world needs more peace and we are not even close to it. World peace is one thing I will always advocate for because our world has yet to experience it and is badly needed. One characteristic to describe a good person is honesty. Many people in the world are faker then you think and will go about in the world finessing everyone and everything they can just to make sure they are good, but not others around them. I wish people were 100% honest and wouldn’t hide things. Like our very own government with their top secret files and they are never giving the citizens the full story to the problems our world is really facing. I just want the truth to always be around us.

I have been very cautious about my writing with regards to layout and grammar. This class has helped me review my work very closely, to check for any errors that may be present with in my writing. I have grown as a thinker from my own previous work experience, I feel as though there was not enough class time at the end of semester to fully indulge on certain topics because of the quarantine and shutdown of the campus. The resume was extremely beneficial because my personal resume was long overdue for a touch up. Being able to revise it is very important and will help for any future endeavors for obtaining any new employment opportunities.
Ideas that truly resonate with me are the importance of being professional and precise when it comes to any business type writing. My previous work experience has relied heavily on performing at a professional level and providing detailed writing documents to others within my chain of command. The idea of working hard is imperative to a successful career, whether it be school or work. I do my best with performing at the highest level I can to ensure efficient work ethic for both school and job requirements. Going the extra mile is extremely important because someone will always take notice, no matter how long that might be.
This semester as shown me that hard work and organizational skills are mandatory in exceeding expectations and obtaining good grades. With COVID-19 causing many problems, staying organized has helped juggle work and school. Organization is key to performing at high levels within a job atmosphere or staying on top of school work. As a thinker and writer I see myself continuing to pursue my goals, continually trying to better my writing and finding the best possible position I can, given my experience. My dreams are that of pursuing music, recording, writing and producing while maintaining focus on gaining a structured work environment in order to develop a future in case my dreams with music don’t advance as much as I would like them too.
I wish to see more acceptance in the world. Politics has managed to create a major gap in society and the way we live. People’s opinions on politics have become character traits that they judge others on for being opposing of their own. I would like to see open mindedness in people’s character as time goes on. To judge someone for a different view is irrational and only helps widen the gap that many of us have created. I would like to see more conversation without judgment and more acceptance when conversing on different ideas. The divide in our society is becoming more and more worrisome, if people can’t learn to accept other’s opinions, we will never be able to have a unified community.

    Technical Writing
    Professor Brady
    03 May, 2020

This semester was one of my favorite semesters. It’s only my fourth semester of college, but I struggled in my first year. As I finished every semester, I was not satisfied with my effort. I always believe that I can be better the following semester. I love writing classes because I can talk for hours. When I understand the task, I can go on with my thoughts. On the very first day of classes, Professor Brady told us that being ‘likable’ matters. I thought about this every time that I walked into Technical Writing. I wasn’t trying to be liked, but I do know I am likable with my outgoing and vibrant energy. It gave me hope that it isn't all about whom you know, what you have done, or what your grade was in college. This simple word will teach me to not get discouraged, and give me a boost of confidence as I go to the real world.

My writing has changed since the very first assignment we had. Sending emails to my Professors were so much easier. Especially during this time, I thought that it was very useful since we were unable to meet with our professors. I believe that I have grown as a thinker and writer because the assignments we had made us think outside the box. In my assignment where I wrote about “How to Make a Margarita,” it was very easy for me to just do the task over and over again. Having to place something I could involuntarily do into paper and explain took some time process. I liked how we sat in circles during brainstorming/fishbowl because we are constantly looking at the computer screens. Moving forward, I definitely will try to get another job, or experience other things that will coincide with my job goal because I struggled while we were making resumes. In five years, I hope to be in a Master’s Program in Stony Brook for Healthcare Management. I see that as a thinker, I will take what I had learned from Farmingdale and connecting it to my everyday life to help me understand ideas. My biggest change that I would love to see in the world right now is Coronavirus getting better. It saddens me to see so many deaths and so many people being affected, whether it’s emotionally or financially.

CONFIDENCE- Good character is having confidence in yourself. Learn to carry yourself with the respect and treatment you deserve. Don’t let people walk all over you, and do not change your perspective on anything to go with the flow. To be a good leader, we must first be confident in ourselves before others choose to trust us. I will move forward in my life standing tall(even though I am 5”1) completely believing in myself.

Within your class professor, I learned a lot. For instance, I never knew how to write proposals or actual business emails. To think about it, if I never learned how to write business proposals or emails, or had them as assignments in class, I would be clueless if I would’ve been asked to create one. As for my writing, the one thing that changed from taking this class is that I learned how to use better transition words, so you don’t repeat yourself, bore the readers, and still have their attention. In addition to this, believe that I definitely grown as a thinker and writer. Now, with each project, I create drafts and write my ideas or write a draft. I do this so I don’t just think as I write, trying to complete the project. Also, since I make drafts, it helps me think of different ideas and explore different ideas, just in case what you wrote doesn’t make any sense or isn’t worded clearly.

Next, let’s talk about what I did like about the class. For the class, I loved how you really cared for us as students and shown respect towards us, all while being a professor who is understanding. Also, I liked how the class gave us a glance at what may be considered essential skills when working for businesses. Besides what I liked about the class, the one idea that resonates with me is the idea of respect. When you give respect, you are most likely to receive respect back in return. Like you said in class, no one wants to be disrespected or to be viewed as a disrespectful person. Now, what I can take away from this semester is to always be confident within the work you do. I’m not going to lie, through this semester, I would see other students work and say “Damn, my work sucks.” Then, when I received my work back, and when I got an amazing grade, I learned to trust myself. So, applying this to my life outside of the classroom, you should never give up on yourself and have faith/trust within yourself.

Along with the questions I answered before, I see myself in five years hopefully earning an amazing internship, building my resume, and working my way to obtaining my MBA. Also, I hope to work for an amazing company that pays well and provides benefits, which is also part of my dreams along with having a family of my own one day. Not only that, but you also asked about what changes I would love to see in the world. Some changes I would love to see is to stop racisim and for everyone to respect each other. In this world, there is still so much hate and disrespect towards one another, that it makes a world with unity seem so far away. To add on to this question, one characteristic I think is a good to describe someone’s character and to be used in the world going forward is integrity. Having integrity is important because it shows you are a good person with morals and believes in doing the right things, and not doing the bad/wrong things in life.

    Professor Mignano-Brady

I have to honestly say that this has been one of my favorite classes I have ever taken. Professor Mignano-Brady is not just a Professor, but an inspiration and a life coach to prepare you for the future. I learned a lot this semester not only about writing, but about becoming a professional in the real world. I learned about writing formal emails, writing cover letters, adding to my resume and how to properly communicate to potential bosses. When I write now, I think more about what I am saying and how to come across more professionally. I always think about my white space, my header and my salutation. These factors always make writing an essay or even an email look and sound more professional. I have grown more confidently in my thinking and writing. We were always told to take pride in our writing and asked are we proud of what we are going to submit? And did we earn that grade? Grades are not just given they are earned.

The things I liked most about the class was that we used a lot of real world aspects in our writing, for example, my brothers pizzeria, I got to use that in some of my writing pieces and apply something I was familiar with and grow with it. Something that truly resonates with me is something we were told every day is that always look someone in the eyes when you speak, be confident, greet your classmates and professor when you come into class and when you leave class. These are all social skills that we learned in our writing class; this class was not just about writing essays we were taught skills that we will have forever. I will take away from school in general is that you should never take anything for granted. Unfortunately, because of COVID-19 I was not able to attend school and take in that face to face learning or see my friends. Sometimes we take for granted how good life can really be. In five years, I see myself applying my skills I have learned not only at my future job but in life. Becoming an engineer requires a lot of critical thinking and being well articulated in critical thinking is important. My dreams are to gradate college and earn my PE license to become a licensed engineer. Also, I want to move to Florida when I am done with school and work under someone who has a lot of experience so I can grow and develop as an engineer.

Changes I wish to see in the world is the way people see female workers. It’s 2020 and I am pursuing a career in a male dominated field, yet men and women still are not considered equals. Women can do 99.9% of jobs men can do and it’s time to realize that, no one should ever put someone down just because of their gender. In the short clip I watched from the movie “The Pursuit of Happyness” Will Smith stated… “don’t ever let somebody tell you can’t do something. Not even me, alright? You got a dream? You got to protect it. People can’t do something themselves; they want to tell you; you can’t do it. You want something go get it.” I really love when he said this because it’s very true, if your more capable then somebody else, good! Go out there and dream big and accomplish your goals, only thing it takes is hard work and dedication. It is your life, and no one should influence you to stop dreaming. One characteristic trait to describe a good character would be honesty. An honest person is always sincere and truthful and generally does not feel comfortable participating in deceptive practices. Honesty is essential is all positions and aspects of life. I wish to see honesty in the world by people admitting their mistakes and taking responsibility for their actions, if people honestly accept their wrong doings, it is easier to move onto the next step.

This class has taught me a lot of skills and lessons that I can use in life for years to come. Reflecting back on this class this semester I think I learned most to be confident in my writing. I often go back and forth and decipher what sounds weird or if what I wrote isn't good enough and continuously start over because of fear. Through Professor Brady's advice and my grades, it shows that my writing is good enough and I shouldn't have so much doubt. I learned about being aware of white space, grammar, and salutations. I enjoyed being encouraged to think about what my purpose is in what I am writing because that makes me more influenced and confident in my writing. Purpose is everything, without purpose then you end up with writing something bland and uninfluential. I think that idea of establishing my purpose before writing will resonate with me in my future and lead me to being a better technical writer in the workplace, which is what I lack most at where I currently work.

Something I will take away from the classroom is spreading positivity. Professor Brady encouraged us to say good morning to each other, be respectful to one another, and communicate more, not only by telling us but showing us every time we were in the classroom. I now am aware of how I email my professors and making sure to add salutations to be friendly and respectful. Along with how Professor Brady presented in the class speaking loud, with confidence, and accurately explained topics, I definitely learned that the skill of public speaking goes a long way. I think this is so important to learn before we all enter the workforce. In five years i think i will be a confident technical writer and since I have a strong interest in the business field this will help me succeed when writing proposals, business emails, and cover letters. I see myself gaining experience through internships and new job opportunities with the help of this class.

One characteristic to describe good character is honesty. I feel a lot of people have ulterior motives that they hide or lie to get ahead. I think social media has desensitized honesty by being able to portray yourself in a certain way that you aren't in real life. This creates so many problems such as encouraging people to put on a fake persona to impress others and keep up with “trends”, hurting self-esteems, and creating unrealistic standards. Honesty in the media outlets is even non-existent with so much fake news that is read on major platforms such as facebook or in newspapers. Lack of honesty is also present within our political system and creates a world of mistrust, starting at the people we are supposed to believe in to improve our lives for the future. I’m not sure on how to fix this problem but I think people should become more aware of their surroundings, do your research, focus on bettering yourself in a genuine way, and believe yourself is good enough.

  17. This semester I feel that my writing has changed a lot. My ideas have become neater and well-developed. This class has taught me to think differently on how to approach my writing and also how to think better when it comes to certain situations.
What I liked about your class is the environment. The computer lab made the class not feel like a class. I felt freer and not as restricted to a classroom. Another thing I loved about class was of course the professor. You truly made the class exciting; you are very into it and love to talk and don’t leave us in the dark.
What I will take away from this semester is how important the teacher is during these tough times. At first, I was kind of bothered about having class online and thought I would not take it seriously but having motivated teachers really helped during this pandemic. I also am taking away how to stay organized and be on top of life. This is a crucial skill to have in life.
I see myself as a business owner/ entrepreneur. Most of my life I have been around my father’s businesses and I see the ins and outs. My father told me that other day that I think like a business owner so I can only add to that.
I wish for the world to be safer. This virus really took a toll on the world. We basically put the world on pause. I want to see everyone work together and move forward together. Once we are relieved from this virus, we need to have safety measures implemented to prevent contact with others. This virus is going to change our lives just like 9/11 changed our lives several years back.
I would describe myself as motivated. Being motivated is a good characteristic to have. It is the driving force for me to continue. It keeps me going and wanting more in life. Being motivated makes the world go round. It is the key to success to accomplish goals.

When I enrolled in the class I didn't know what to expect in a technical writing class. The main reason for taking the class was learning how to speak professionally whether it be at school, at work or for future job interviews. After taking this course, I believe that this class should be taken by everyone. Not only did I learn how to send a proper business email, but I also learned how to present myself with confidence when meeting someone. This class has taught me to write, propose and present myself with confidence and learned what specific things a boss might look for in an applicant.

One of the projects that I found to be very helpful now and for the rest of my life was the business email. This project helped me learn to configure an email the proper way whether it is going to a professor or to my boss. I send a lot of emails to my professors and my current boss, so learning the correct way to formulate an email has helped me already. Now people have taken me a little more serious and have listened to things I bring to their attention. Another assignment that will only benefit my future was working on our resumes. You helped us develop our resumes for our future jobs so that they stick out from others.

In five years I expect I will be working for some sports organization or a business firm. In the future, I would like to see the world become a happier and more positive place, with less violence. It's proven that when you are around people that strive to be better than the previous day, you will be more successful than someone who is negative all the time. One characteristic that describes a good character is leadership. Someone who is a leader not only looks to help himself, but makes sure that the people surrounding him succeed too.

Technical writing wasn’t like any other English class that i have taken in the past. In this class, I have learned a lot of valuable tools that are useful in school, and out of school. For example, being able to write business emails, creating resumes, cover letters, etc. which are all important when trying to find a job. One of the most important things I have gotten from this class was to be proud of the work I was doing, and determine if it will provide the highest grade that is deserved.

Another important thing that I will take away from your class and incorporate it into my daily life is maintaining eye contact more, and greeting someone with a handshake(after this pandemic of course). My thinking and writing skills have improved quite a bit in this class as I have to get more creative with word choice and have my writing stand out from the others. Five years from now, I could see myself working for ConEdison or somewhere in the electrical engineering field as it provides great benefits.

Some changes I would like to see in the world more are positivity and honesty. One great characteristic to describe good character is determination. Determination is one of the key traits to have because it shows that if you’re being faced with a problem that might seem impossible, you won’t back out from the challenge until you achieve your goals. I would like to see determination more in the world because people will tell you, what you can or can not do out of pure jealousy which would create a sense of doubt of what you wanted to do.

Technical Writing is a completely different English class that I’ve taken compared to 101 and 102. It gives students the proper online etiquette that’s required in the business world and I think that’s important because you’re going to have to know how to properly talk to people to not only widen your connections but to just simply interact with others. This class has given me those skills and I’ll be sure to take them with me when I pursue my professional career, not only that but within my own personal life. Little things such as shaking hands, maintaining eye contact, along with speaking loud and clear I didn’t realize made such a difference in how others respond. This class has definitely changed how I write any professional letter/email and it’s also helped me develop my LinkedIn profile and resume more. This class has also helped me expand my vocabulary because a big part of this class was using action verbs, and finding words to pull a reader’s attention. Technical Writing has given me communication skills and etiquette necessary in the workforce that I didn’t have before and I’ll take it with me in my career.
In five years, I see myself hopefully passingly my bar and practicing law after getting my Master’s in Business Administration. I want to be accomplished while also making a name for myself whether it be in business or law. For all the years I’m going to be spending in school, I want something to show for it and I want to reap the benefits of my hard work. I aspire to live comfortably while also enjoying my field of work.
One characteristic that I think describes good character is honesty. I value honesty over anything because I believe in saying what you have to say and sticking by it. It doesn’t matter how much it’ll bother me because at least it’s the truth that’s being said and not something that’s being shared with me just to spare my feelings and I put two and two later on. It’s also a show of integrity because if someone is dishonest, then nobody is going to want to rely on them or they’ll take everything they say with a grain of salt even if they are telling the truth. Honesty is a characteristic that shows good character because you won’t get far in life lying to everybody and anybody, be honest. Telling lies just to lie, to avoid consequences, or even because you’re trying to show you have knowledge of something that you don’t is a bad look.

Technical writing has taught me a lot in the span of a few months. Things that I will carry on with me when I go into the real world. Your class has taught me that business isn't always about being technical, but being creative. It's more than just writing. It's unlike any English course that I have taken. Technical writing is more than the published writing pieces you have, but what makes you different from others? What do you bring to the table? The truth is we all have something to bring to the table, and each thing we deliver will be unique from the next.

I feel I've grown as a thinker and a writer. For instance, I thought more creatively about what I was putting on the paper. As a scholar, we tend to focus on our grades and not so much the meaning behind the work. One thing I will take away from in your class is that although grades matter, you should love the piece you wrote. You should be proud of the work you produced and not so much the grade you get. Your class has inspired me again. I have had a lot of classes I've enjoyed over the years, but this was one for the books. I have learned how to write a resume, a business email, a proposal.

Going forward, I see myself continuing my education in Psychology. I plan on applying to grad school next semester. In 5 years, I'll be going for my Ph.D., if I haven't already. I wish to help kids who struggle with educational needs and those who live in poverty. I love teaching and helping those in need so that it would be a perfect fit, in my opinion. Being able to do both would be my dream come true, and I intend to make it happen.

One characteristic that builds good character is resilience, the ability to bounce back when faced with adversity. In times, we often give up on our dreams because we failed once, having resilience means that no matter what life throws at you, you'll always get right back up to push through it. For the world, if we are able to stay together and push through this time of tragedy, we will be able to overcome anything life may throw at us.

  25. English has never been a class I enjoyed until this semester in Technical Writing! Technical Writing has been the most informative, real-life relevant class I have taken. I have gained a lot of confidence as a writer in multiple ways. One being how to remain professional and another being kind. This class broadened me as a thinker and writer as well. I’m a lot more perspective in analyzing situations and caring when listening. All the work we’ve done has been extremely helpful and encouraging.

Technical Writing was very enjoyable, but the thing I had liked the most was sharing all our quotes. It was really cool to see what quotes resonated with what people and to listen to how they interpreted them as well. The idea of just simply being likable is what caught my attention the most. It is so important to treat people the right way and to care about what you say and to listen when someone’s talking. I will take away a lot from this class; how to write professionally, how to communicate at work, writing with more confidence, and how to adapt! As the projects went on, I started using all of them at work. Everything has been so useful.

In the future, I hope to graduate college and have a great resume to apply for a job for a company I respect. I want to continue working at my current job and gain experience to be more successful and also network. The video with Robin Williams really caught my attention when he asked, “what is your “verse”?”. I really hope to be successful and stable with my career. A change I want to see is more help on world hunger and poverty. I know how many suffer and don’t know where their next meal is coming from, so that’s why stability is important to me. It would be an eye-opening experience to go to Ghana or Honduras to really understand them and help.

Reliable to me this is the best characteristic to describe good character in a person. It is so important to stand by your word when you say something whether it’s to pick up someone from the airport or to complete a task at work. It’s really great to know you can depend on someone or be able to know they are going to come through if they said they were. Being timely reliable is important as well. You shouldn’t make people wait or have them be waiting on you. Time is valuable. I hope to see more people today mean what they say and say what they mean, and be there for each other. Especially now during the coronavirus, when things are tricky.

  26. When I registered for Technical Writing, I had no idea what to expect going into it. All I knew was that it was required for my major and it was going to teach me how to write documents I would be using in the workforce. Although I did not get to spend as much time in the classroom as I would have liked, I genuinely enjoyed the time I had. Not only did Professor Brady make the class enjoyable, my classmates made it enjoyable as well. Technical Writing was unlike the class I was originally expecting. Every English class I had previously taken had pieces of literature involved. After finding out what exactly the class entailed, I was incredibly excited to take part in this course.

Coming into this course, I considered myself a pretty decent writer. It is something I have a genuine interest in and I make sure all of my pieces are well written. One major change I noticed in my writing is that I write a lot more professionally now than I did before. I learned how to write a business email and was taught to use a signature at the bottom of each one. Before taking this class, I never realized how important a signature was on important documents. I have undoubtedly grown as a thinker since the beginning of the semester. Whenever I thought of writing a business email, I never realized how important professionalism is in these pieces. Thinking about what you want to say and how you want to say it is crucial in business.

One thing I loved most was the use of the blog. I never used that type of website for any of my classes before, but I loved using it for this course. It was nice to be able to stay in contact with everyone as we began our online learning. I also loved the fishbowl concepts, both in class and online. I loved to write, so it was fun to be able to put my thoughts onto the blog. As both a thinker and writer, I hope to see myself using my knowledge to benefit my future career. I hope to use the skills I have acquired in this class.

Going forward, I would like to stay at the job I am currently working at. I hope to stay there until I graduate college. When I think about the changes I would like to see in the world, I hope everything will be able to go back to normal soon. Hopefully, we all become cleaner after this and take our hygiene seriously. One characteristic to describe good character is empathy. If you are not empathetic of a person’s feelings, you are not showing good character.

Throughout this semester I have learned many things, about writing and also learning to be likeable and outgoing in the workplace. A good example of this is saying good morning to my boss in the morning this will be something that hopefully sticks with me for my whole life. What has changed in my writing the most this semester was learning to follow the format of which was assigned better. This is very important because being confused isn’t a way I can be successful in the future.
During this semester I have grow as a thinker and a writer, it would have been harder for myself to grow but with the help of professor brady I have improved as both a writer and thinker. One of my most favorite things we did in class this semester was sharing are favorite quotes using a ball to throw around. I liked that because it gave are class a game mentality to it and I got to share a quote that I really look up to and admire by Jeter. I can connect Jeter’s quote with the video of the pursuit of happiness. In the pursuit of happiness, he teaches his son that if he wants to accomplish his goals, he has got to go get it and the same for Jeter who never allowed anyone to work harder than him to accomplish his goals.
This semester I can take away many things, but the true lesson learned is to enjoy everyday we all have together because you never know when things can change and this semester things did change. Outside the classroom this is important to know because I will in the future be thankful of every day we all have together at school or further to the road at my job. In five years from now I see myself as a successful person who is grateful from everything I have ever learned in my journey till then and everything I will learn in the future.
My dreams moving forward after college is to get a really good job that I will like and enjoy every day I go in. In the world one thing I wish would change would be for sports to come back. During the coronavirus we have lost many things, but sports is the one thing I personally miss a lot. One characteristic that describes good character is hard working. Hard working is good because it always the most successful people are those who have worked there hardest to earn their successful life. In the future I hope to see the world virus free and for all people to be thankful for everyday and put aside conflict and replace it with kindness.

During the semester, I learned that writing was a repetitive process. Through good planning, and constructive feedback I was able to grow and improve on my technical writing skills. I felt that each project we did offered its own lesson. The projects allowed me to release my writing skills and creativity at 100%. During this semester, I dedicated more time in my day to focus on my writing assignments. It allowed me to focus more on my ideas and I felt more confident on my writing skills. What I enjoyed most about the class was writing a business proposal because it allowed me to have an understanding on how having my own business ideas through writing could look like. This project was my favorite because it allowed me to get creative and think realistically with what I can propose as a business owner.

Something that will resonate with me from this class is that having the confidence in your writing will make you be better as a writer. Feeling confident of one’s writing will allow you to achieve whatever you want in your writing. Something that I will take from this class is that being able to write in a professional manner will be very important when leaving college and joining the workforce. In five years I plan on already starting my own trucking business and having the experience in the trucking industry in order to be one of the successful trucking companies in the state. Some change that I wish to see in the future is more tolerance and acceptance. Whether it's personal, religious, political views or people’s lifestyle choices.

One characteristic to describe good character is humbleness. I personally believe humble people show greater generosity, helpfulness, and gratitude. All these things can only serve to make them closer to others. This is an essential characteristic for a great leader. Overall, I enjoyed taking this class with Professor Mignano-Brady because she made everything possible for our class. Even during this pandemic she was able to keep my spirits high and I will always be grateful for that. So thank you Professor Mignano-Brady for a wonderful semester!

  29. I’ve never taken any other english course besides english 101 and 102, so I thought this course would be the same idea of reading things the teacher assigns and writing a summary…something I’ve been doing since high school. It turned out to be a lot different and more geared towards the professional world. Learning how to write a business e-mail and the proper format for documents in the workplace was what I found to be the most useful. I definitely preferred this technical writing style over the writing I did in my other english classes. I felt like I just had to keep adding words and “fluff” to all my other english assignments in college that no one really cares about in the workplace, I think the way we did things in this class was more practical. I think this class has made my writing become a lot more professional and now when I get a job and have to write an e-mail to my boss or colleagues, I won’t have to google examples of one.
I really appreciated that we had a lot of freedom in this class. We were able to incorporate our current job, or future dream job, into each assignment we did. I think it’s important to have that freedom because in real life, your boss isn’t going to tell you step by step what to do for every task they give you, you have to figure out what works best for whatever it is you’re trying to accomplish. This whole pandemic situation really taught me how important it is to have a secure job. I thought I knew what I wanted to do, but now I’m rethinking everything. I was going to keep my bartending job while I work my way up the ladder in the business world, but now I don’t see that happening. I’m not sure about a lot but I do know in five years I want to be independent. I want to be living on my own and supporting myself completely. I now am focusing on furthering my education and seeing where it takes me.
The one word that stands out when I think of someone with good character is honesty. I think if you are a liar, that’s really all that matters about you. A person who is not honest is a person who is not loyal or dependable, therefore you will always be questioning their intentions in the back of your mind. It’s sad to see the amount of distrust that goes on, especially in this country. There have been so many leaders that we’ve looked up to that ended up being dishonest, that I think we have learned to just not trust anybody. It would be nice to see a world where citizens of a country can trust those that are supposed to be protecting and doing good for them.
